12600 SOUTH EAST WEST CLOSURE, THURSDAY NIGHT

On Thursday, Jan. 21, 7 p.m., crews will begin the process to close east-west access at 12600 South across Bangerter Highway. By Friday morning, drivers are advised to plan ahead and use alternate routes or designated detours while navigating the area.

This closure will be in place through August 2021.

Drivers, residents, and businesses can expect the following:

  • East-west travel at 12600 South across Bangerter will be restricted

  • North-south drivers on mainline Bangerter will have free-flow travel with the permanent removal of the traffic signal

  • Right-hand turns to/from 12600 South will be allowed

Designated detours will be in place for drivers navigating the area.

CONSTRUCTION ACTIVITIES

Bangerter Highway

Southbound on- and off-ramp construction

Traffic has shifted to the east side of Bangerter Highway.

On- and off-ramp construction

Crews continue construction of the southbound on- and off-ramps. Activities include:

  • Roadway excavation

  • Smoothing out new asphalt

  • Storm drain installation

Temporary barrier is currently in place on southbound Bangerter between 10400 South and 11400 South to facilitate utility relocations on the west side.

In late January, crews will begin drainage installation activities on the south side of 10400 South east of Bangerter Highway. This work will take place during daytime hours and drivers can expect changing traffic patterns and construction equipment in the area. All business access will be maintained during these work activities.

Plan Ahead

Construction activities are ongoing day and night. Residents, businesses, and drivers should be aware of trucks entering and exiting the work zone, as well as noise, dust, vibration, and nighttime construction lighting.

Drivers and pedestrians are advised to note reduced speeds of 45 mph, changing traffic patterns, and on-site construction activities and equipment while navigating in the area

ABOUT THE PROJECT

As part of its efforts to keep traffic moving on Bangerter Highway now and into the future, UDOT will build freeway-style interchanges at 6200, 10400, and 12600 South. This is a continuation of UDOT’s multi-year effort to upgrade Bangerter Highway and the east-west arterial roads in order to meet the traffic demands of western Salt Lake County.

COVID-19 UPDATE

During these unprecedented times, safety remains our top priority and we have been following the Governor’s mandate to take bold, aggressive steps to slow the spread of disease. Our project team is working hard to maintain a heightened awareness and proper social distancing methods while still moving forward with construction activities.
